I work on how meritocratic beliefs shape inequality and democratic life, drawing on research conducted at Freie Universität Berlin and at Harvard University.

My work sits at the intersection of moral and political philosophy and public policy, with a focus on meritocracy and the (in)justice of inequality.

I am publishing my PhD, Meritocracy and Moral Inequality, as an academic book, and writing a German general-audience book titled Deserved Inequalities: Rise and Fall in our Moralized Meritocratic Society.

This year, I teach Justice (Michael Sandel) and What is a Republic? (Daniel Carpenter) at Harvard College.

I also work professionally in policy, governance, and ethics, supporting foundations and public institutions.

I hold a BA in Philosophy and Economic History from the University of Göttingen, an MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics (LSE), and an MA in Philosophy from Humboldt University Berlin. My PhD is from Freie Universität Berlin. I was a visiting fellow at Harvard University in Spring 2023, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025, and a visiting student at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2016-17.
